Hypnosis is Your Friend

Reassuring Reasons why Hypnosis is your Friend

You've probably watched a late night movie with a mad scientist who hypnotizes some pretty young maiden to join him in a life of crime. This makes for an interesting movie, but it's mostly science fiction.

Is this an accurate image of hypnosis? While it may have been part of a good plot in a movie, modern, professional hypnosis is nothing like what it's portrayed to be in science fiction movies.

If you don't know much about hypnosis, it's easy to be suspicious. While many consider it to be just right for a carnival or side show, some people confuse it with mind control or brainwashing. After all, isn't that what cults do?

But, today scientists are using hypnosis to help people in everyday life. Hypnosis has the potential to help improve people's lives physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

Some people who are shy can benefit from thinking about themselves and others differently. Their past experiences with their family, friends, and acquaintances have brought them to the point where they fear open and free contact with others. Hypnosis can help provide them with new imagery to replace many of their negative memories. They can overcome their shyness and talk calmly and confidently with others.

Other people who have poor self images can have their subconscious image of themselves improved. Their parents may have told them repeatedly that they were worthless, useless, and would never amount to anything. Hypnosis can help guide them to adopt a new image of themselves as important members of society. They can then function in society with more calmness, courage, and self-assurance.

Your subconscious mind has been programmed by those people all around you. What you experienced with your parents, relatives, neighbors, teachers, and others has placed in your subconscious mind an image of how they thought about you. It is unfortunate that for most people, the image the adults had of them remains the image they have of themselves, even today.

Young people are easily and permanently influenced by adults. If you were raised in a home by encouraging, reassuring, happy, curious, hard working parents you should consider yourself blessed. Most people come from disfunctional homes where their parents were, at least some of the time, unhappy, critical, disrespectful, dejected people who did not have a positive view of life.

Your subconscious mind maintains this image of you. Aspects of this image are replayed over an over again as you go about your daily life. Your self-image either enables you to perform at a high level or prevents you from feeling worthy of achieving the success to desire.

Perhaps your image is that of a person rejected by others who needs the pleasures of a cigarette to brighten their day. That image has been shaped into a person who needs a cigarette while watching TV, while having a cup of coffee, and on and on.

Hypnosis is a means of providing new, guided imagery to the subconscious mind. It is a way of changing your self-image. You can overcome the image that adults had of you when you were a child by introducing new imagery of the person you want to be.

Hypnosis helps relax the conscious mind to allow new imagery to be communicated directly to the subconscious mind where your self-image is maintained. During a hypnosis session you can still think logically and you "talk" directly to your subconscious mind. You can guide it to new imagery of yourself and how you interact with others in your environment.

As you prepare for hypnosis, you plan some aspects of the new self-image. That is, you will identify some memories you want to overcome. Suppose you want to overcome the image of a smoker who lights up a cigarette while watching TV. You will plan images of yourself doing something else.

Perhaps instead of lighting up a cigarette you will imagine yourself going to the kitchen to get a couple of carrots and then chewing on the carrots during the TV program. You can imagine how the carrots taste and the sound that chewing the carrots makes. You may even imagine how the beta-carrotine in the carrots will work in your body, acting as an antioxident preventing damage to your cells.

Then, during hypnosis you will replay the new image of yourself getting up to get some carrots. Then, when you are actually watching a TV program you may well actually have a desire for a couple of carrots instead of a cigarette.

Hypnosis is simply your ability to help create a self-image that works better for your life than the self-image programmed by other adults during you childhood. It is a way of creating a "you" this is responsive to today's world and can function more healthfully, actively, and successfully.

There is no reason you have to go around with a self-image that was given to you by people who were, themselves, not fully functional in their worlds. You can correct and improve your self-image by the guided imagery of hypnosis. You can change and improve the way you function in life by developing a new image of how you relate to others and how you interact with the world around you.
